Today I’m reviewing the Philips AirFryer. This is supposed to be a healthy alternative to deep fry cooking. You can fry, bake, and grill with this unit. It works on hot air.

Included with the unit is a user manual, and a air fryer recipe book. There’s a guide with max amounts and cooking times for frozen food, meat, and French fries. There are recipes for fries, spring rolls, chicken wings, steak, a whole Cornish game hen, salmon, and even vanilla soufflé.
The air outlet is in the back, and that shouldn’t be blocked. There is cord storage on the bottom. On the fryer there are times and temperatures for different types of food. there is the temperature dial control, and there is a timer.
The basket pulls right out and pushes back in easily. Push this button, and it releases the basket. Food goes in this basket. If you’re baking, you can use a metal or ceramic dish of your own inside the basket. You can’t use any plastic containers in the basket.

Air Fryer Fried Chicken
Let’s go ahead and test the AirFryer; Be making chicken wings. Plug in the unit, preheat to three hundred and sixty degrees, turn the temperature dial to three sixty, and the timer to three minutes. You can see the power-on indicator lights up. It sounds like a loud fan. The fryer is done pre-heating. There is two pounds of chicken wings. Put one tablespoon of vegetable oil and some spices and mixed the chicken really well.
Open the basket. It is hot inside so don’t touch the inside. Place the chicken inside. There is a max line inside so you don’t want to fill above that. This is about eleven chicken wings. Slide the basket back into the unit. We’ll turn the timer on for fifteen minutes.
We’ll shake the chicken half way through the cooking time. It’s been about seven minutes. I’m going to pull the basket out. You can see this is what the chicken looks like. Just shake it. It doesn’t really want to shake so I’m just going to move it around with a spoon. Put it back in. It does sound like there’s frying going on in there. I can hear the sputtering of the oil.
The timer just turned off. Let’s open the basket and see if the chicken is done. The skin is a little bit crispy. It looks cooked. I’ll cut into a piece. It’s super hot. The chicken looks like it’s almost cooked. I’m going to set the timer for six more minutes.
The timer’s gone off. Let’s check on the chicken. That looks better. The chicken looks nice and golden brown. As you can see one side of the chicken is golden brown, the other is not. You do have to flip these half way and shake them so they’re evenly cooked.
All the parts are very hot so just make sure to hold onto the handle. There’s the basket with a lot of the grease from the chicken on it. There’s also a lot of grease in the bottom of the pan.
Air fryer Taste
Let’s cut into our chicken. It is nice and cooked. The skin is a little crispy. It’s not super crispy. You can cook this for longer to make it crispier. You can see some of the chicken is very crispy. This is not. So it’s not completely even. I’m just going to taste a piece. It’s very hot. It does taste really good. The chicken is very juicy and moist and very flavorful. I didn’t marinate the chicken. I just put some dry spices on here and put it straight in the AIrFryer. That skin was crispy: really tasty chicken.
You can use this unit to reheat food. Set the temperature to three hundred degrees and the timer for up to ten minutes.
Philips Fryer: Cleaning
To clean, turn the unit to zero and unplug. Wipe the grease off with a paper towel first, and then wash with hot water and dishwashing liquid. This is also dishwasher safe. You can wipe the rest of the AirFryer with a damp cloth. Make sure to dry all the parts before putting it in the AIrFryer.

Philips AirFryer did a good job on the chicken wings. The chicken was cooked really well. It tasted really good. It was moist and juicy. You saw the amount of grease that was left in the pan. We only used one tablespoon of oil for the two pounds of chicken wings, and most of it was drained off. So this is a healthier way to make chicken wings. When you’re deep drying food, whatever you’re frying will be crispy throughout. Some of the chicken wings were very crispy, and others were not so crispy. So you’re not going to get a completely even result.
Deep-frying is a hassle because you have to get rid of the oil, you have to get rid of the smell, and it’s unhealthy. This Philips Air Fryer is a decent alternative to deep-frying.
Air Fryer French Fries
I’m going to try making French fries. I’m soaking two medium russet potatoes in water. They’re about three inches long and a half-inch wide. I’m following the recipe in the AirFryer booklet. I’ll soak the potatoes for thirty minutes.
I’m pre-heating the fryer at three sixty for three minutes. The fryer’s pre-heated. I drained and dried the potatoes with some paper towels and tossed them with one tablespoon of olive oil.
Put the potatoes in. You don’t want to just dump in the bowl of potatoes because the excess oil on the bottom of the bowl will be on the potatoes and you really don’t want that. Set the timer for thirty minutes.
It’s been ten minutes. I’m going to open the basket and just shake it around a little. Put it back.
There’s about eight minutes left on the timer. Looks like it’s browning nicely. Shake it around. I’m going to check these because they look like they’re almost done. This is crunchy. This is a little bit thinner than the rest of them, so this is done. This is also done. It’s crunchy.
This is a thicker one, and it is cooked. It’s crispy on one side and a little bit softer on the other, so you could let this go for a few more minutes.
I’m going to turn my timer off. When the timer turns off, the unit turns off. So you don’t have to worry about overcooking anything or burning your food.
All the fries are cooked and most of them are golden brown. These two medium russet potatoes cooked in twenty-two minutes. Sprinkle some salt on them while they’re still warm.
They are so much healthier than deep-frying. We only used one tablespoon of olive oil, so this is a really healthy version of French fries. The basket is clean, and there’s really no oil on the bottom of the pan because we started out with so little.
This Philips AirFryer is like a mini convection oven. It cooks food really fast with hot air. The AirFryer did a good job on the chicken and the French fries.
Just a tip: when you clean this basket, don’t use a scrubby. Just use the smooth side of a sponge. If you have one of those sponges with a scrubby on one side and smooth on the other, do not use the scrubby. I did that and little parts of the scrubby got stuck to the wire. It’s best to use a very smooth sponge. If there’s anything that’s stuck on the basket or the bottom of the pan, just soak it in hot water and you can wash it with soap after that.
The Air Fryer is very versatile. You can use it to make desserts and appetizers and entrees. If you deep-fry a lot, or if you just like French fries, chicken wings, and other fried foods a lot, then this Philips AirFryer is a good option for you.

Crispy Potato Skin Wedges
Make this a very fair evaluation I’m going to use a recipe that they provided in their book so today we’re going to be making their potato – Crispy potato skin wedges . I have all the directions to prep the potatoes but what I also thought would be helpful is that at the same time these are being cooked in the airfryer that we would also bake them in the oven as we normally would we can kind of see the difference between having an air fried versus that being baked in the oven
Alright so the first thing I’m gonna do is I’m going to fire this up because I’ve got to preheat this so when I turn it to any one of the timers it just immediately comes on which reason to believe that it’s really easy to heat up.
Further instructions what I’ve done was if I first had to boil the potatoes for about 20-30 minutes until they were tinder and could be pierced with a fork after that I drain them and then put them in the fridge and wants to completely cool down and then I slice them into wedges.
Now the recipe calls for about 2 tablespoons of canola oil for six large potatoes. I’m not using that many first off I’m using red potatoes and I don’t have canola oil here but I do have almond oil almond a little has a very high cook point as well that can be used for frying.
So we’re going to use that I’m going to add a pinch of sea salt and a pinch of pepper. I’m going to stir this up open this up because the instructions said you not at any liquid. I’m going to place these in here very carefully so that way I won’t get any other oil that here at the bottom of this bowl for this recipe. It also says to place the potatoes wedges with the skin down so i’m going to manually do that is what they look like.
I’m going to set the timer to 15 minutes as per the instructions and we’re going to let this cook. Now while this is cooking I’m going to prep the potatoes the way that we normally would so I’ve got some raw potatoes here I’ve also put some almond oil on them and a little bit of sea salt and pepper and now I’m going to spread them on this baking sheet. I’m going to bake these in the oven for about 20-25 minutes at 420.
So let’s take this out now let’s eat. Whoa well the first impression it looks great first off look at that Holy Smoke it looks pretty good. They even sound like real fries and put them right in here these are right out from the airfryer back part of it is actually pretty crispy.
Here the ones from the oven the outside is hard but it’s not as crispy as the other one as the piece air fried one. So now let’s do a quick taste test I’m going to test the ones from this is the airfryer. I’ve got a great texture I think that cooking it beforehand really helps out the middle of it to be really soft. It’s in what it’s still very firm the outside is crispy,it is really flaky which is what you want from a crispy fried potato.
Now you go with the ones that are baked in the oven there’s a little bit of crispiness on on the outside of it but not but the crispiness is definitely here on the air fried potatoes. There is a noticeable difference in the taste and the texture. When the air fried ones think that it’s creamier because we had to boil them first to cook the potato and then we let it cool and then we put it in here to fry so I think that’s why it’s much creamier. It’s much softer but the outside is very firm it’s very flaky.
So let’s run down the three criteria in terms of quality thumbs up for quality these are restaurant style potato wedges that you would be proud to put in front of your guests.
Ease of use. I would say yes and no. I bake my potatoes in the oven for about 20-25 minutes or so but to prep the potatoes according to the recipe that they provided i first had to boil potatoes which is about 20-25 minutes and then let them cool in the fridge which is another 30 minutes for them to cool down completely then slice them up and then season them up the way that I would so that’s almost an hour’s worth of prep just to have some potatoes was it worth it in the very end. Absolutely I really love the crispiness of it I love the look of it so for ease of use I give it a sideways thumb. Not every recipe that you use with the airfryer is going to be the exact same
So I’m giving it to benefit. There are cheaper ones out there but again the Philips one is one of the best out there on the market. In terms of making that investment I would consider a couple things do you already do calorie conscious cooking if the answer is yes then this may be one of those wonderful wish listings that you put on your Christmas list that you can wait around to get. If you are trying to get into calorie conscious cooking and you’re trying to save on some calories and you’re new to it and you love fried foods well then this may be a great investment for you. Especially if you have a growing family in terms of practicality this is a hot air technology cooker so it’s called a airfryer but it’s almost kind of like a a convection of them so you can bake things in here as well.
So I do think that it is very practical in terms of having a lot of different uses terms of creativity there are a ton of things that you can do with this. I like the fact that with this state also provided a recipe book with a lot of cool recipe ideas to get your mind thinking about ways that you can have calorie conscious meals but in a very delicious so fried way. The product design yes it’s designed beautifully it looks great it’s pretty sexy but it is not a counter space saver so keep that in mind.
